This guest bedroom from the 2011 Hampton Designer Showhouse was simple & sweet! I know I saw that lamb down in SoHo at Oranje last year! The walls are soothing & the light airy feel of the curtains is just enough to sway in the breeze but could be closed for some privacy as well. Very nicely appointed!

This was from the Hamptons Designer Showhouse 2011 one of the rooms I really liked~mainly because it went so well with my Donna Ricco NY dress lol! Just kidding! The ultra cool blues & the violet artwork was a soothing combination. I particularly luvved the sectional on a plinth base very retro! The chandelier cannot be seen but it was gorgeous & the Roman Shade exquisit print banded in solid tied it all together!

This master bedroom suite was painted builder's boring white, carpet & blinds same and literally no personality whatsoever! To the rescue~Benjamin Moore's Affinity collection Flora #AF-470 on the walls & Mascarpone #AF-20 on the crown & base mouldings & trimwork. Ceiling was a 1/2 step off Designer's White. Voila~soothing & serene yet breathing necessary life into this room. Next replacing carpeting with Masland broadloom in Lattice patterned Fern with Rattan accent. Custom-made draperies in Beacon Hill Silk/Linen fabric with a hint of a patterned "fleur de lys" motif in shades of cream/seaglass/rattan. Detailed with ruched grosgrain ribbon in Dark Seaglass. Hand-painted drapery finials, poles, rings & brackets in a lovely patina to coordinate with the color scheme. Henkel-Harris Asian-influenced media cabinet & Gentleman's Chest completes Part 1 of this master bedroom transformation.

This presentation reminds me of early Brunschwig & Fils designed rooms with a sensibility for this century with bold dazzling colorful fabrics! The tented ceiling, wall & drapery fabric seems to envelop the room rendering it cozy & festive! Silk & Linen Velvets for the upholstery which wear so well & an organic-designed linen for the slipper chairs. The chevron ribbon graphic & animal prints add punch to the sofa and the card table chairs wearing a Deco woven velvet that seems to dance the tango! The beautiful coffered ceiling & wall paneling create the backdrop for this Georgian~inspired dining room. The bold citron formal draperies contrast with the "Irish blue" walls. The round Regency table and painted chairs dressed in pink leather pick up the colors of the 19th century Indian cotton Agra carpet. Bold splashes of color work here! Not so sure about the choice of lampshade pendant lighting. I would have done something transparent such as a crystal chandelier so you can see the beauty of this bay window treatment instead of hiding it.

This 2-story living room features a 22' white stacked-stone fireplace, detailed wall paneling & a wall of windows to the pool & reserve. The woven textured stripe Phillip Jeffries wallcovering complements the natural stone. Sunburst mirror above the fireplace, tall mirrored cabinets flanking the fireplace & tastefully simple upholstered sofa/pillow allows the draperies in a graphic geometric take center stage as the only print fabric in the room. It also mimics the design in the pair of tall cabinets to tie those elements together.

This is the boudoir of the infamous Marie Antoinette~lover of King Louis XV of 18th Century France. Madame de Pompadour as she was known had a penchant for interior design which she brought to the Palace of Versailles and The Petite Trianon. Her trellis designed wallpaper (fleuretted treillage) & architectural mouldings were embossed with 24k gold. The framed canopied bed acted to keep in warmth from the drafty palace~the fleur-de-lys (popular iris flower) motif is prominent in the ceiling rotunda. It is rather museum-like with the chairs pushed up against the walls as was customary at the time.

I designed two custom rugs in cream, cerulean blue and cherry red to reflect the color scheme and fit the space like no store bought rug could ever do. One of my client's family room was painted in a tri-colored wash of gold/terracotta/cream by my decorative painter to provide the backdrop for the Frank Lloyd Wright inspired furnishings. My workroom fabricated the triple arch cornice based upon my design utilizing a botanical print fabric in golds, terracottas and greens on a cream background. The solidly hand-crafted Cherry tables are from American manufacturer Thomas Moser Cabinetmakers through DTI. Very stylish yet practical easy living!

Weaving Hope by Design!

I am so excited to announce that I will be featuring the beautiful handwoven rugs by the widows of Afghanistan whose lives have been torn apart by the ravages of war and have nowhere to turn except to utilize their weaving skills! www.arzurugs.org I will be hosting an 8' x 10' of the Resilience rug from the Couture collection. Knowing I can procure any rugs from anywhere on this planet, it does my heart GOO-D to know that I am making a difference in helping these women support and educate their children! Arzu, meaning hope in Dari, builds a foundation of hope by providing sustainable income and helping families break the cycle of poverty by providing them with above market compensation and access to education and health care. A purchase of an Arzu rug is an investment in the future for a woman and her children, a humanitarian design choice that makes a difference in our world!

Suze, the manager of arzu rugs was equally as excited to ship two rugs to me just in time for my showroom Grand Open House! They are in the William Switzer showroom in the Chicago Merchandise Mart (equivalent to our Design & Decoration building on 59th in nyc) but I want to bring them to the attention of all my clients here.
