Classic Meets Modern

By combining elements of classic design with modern we have a melding of styles that suits this penthouse client just fine. The pair of Oscar de la Renta mother-of-pearl nesting tables & Century Brushed Aluminum mirrored side table juxtaposed with the classically pinstriped wing chairs & Masland custom area rugs in Regatta, Crimson & Sharkstooth. The antique Gustavian dining chairs in a fruitwood finish are paired with the naturally exotic deep finish of the Indonesian suar wood table base. Glass top keeps it light & airy. The alabaster pendant lights over the kitchen's center island is fresh & modern in brushed nickel.

Boudoir of Marie Antoinette

This is the boudoir of the infamous Marie Antoinette~lover of King Louis XV of 18th Century France. Madame de Pompadour as she was known had a penchant for interior design which she brought to the Palace of Versailles and The Petite Trianon. Her trellis designed wallpaper (fleuretted treillage) & architectural mouldings were embossed with 24k gold. The framed canopied bed acted to keep in warmth from the drafty palace~the fleur-de-lys (popular iris flower) motif is prominent in the ceiling rotunda. It is rather museum-like with the chairs pushed up against the walls as was customary at the time.

The architectural style is reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright with the stacked quartzite stone columns & expansive windows bring the outdoors in~another eastern influence loved by FLW.
